Diamond Electric to start mass production of Multi-spark Ignition Coil

Contributing to lower fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions by increasing stable combustion range of engines.

Osaka (Japan) - Diamond Electric Mfg. Co., Ltd. has started mass production of small and high-performance Multi-spark Ignition Coils that contribute to better fuel economy and to the reduction of CO2 emissions. By adopting this coil and a new type of ignition system (Multi-Spark ignition), the stable combustion area has been expanded under difficult-to-burn conditions.

In recent years, the need for better fuel economy and reduction of CO２emissions from automobiles has been increasing worldwide as a countermeasure against global warming. Therefore, the trend is to increase the flow velocity in the cylinder under engine combustion conditions and ensure stable combustion, which is a key technology for low fuel consumption and low exhaust.

In order to achieve improved fuel economy while reducing CO2, ignition coils must generate additional energy. Attempts at achieving the goal have created mounting space and weight issues.

Diamond Electric has developed a new concept called the “Multi-Spark Ignition coil” that is both small and provides high energy output.

Diamond Electric’s “Multi-Spark Ignition coil” is capable of multi spark discharges at 1/1000 sec resulting in improved combustion.

As a result of this, the new engine installed in Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.'s mini vehicles "Tanto" and "Tanto Custom" have achieved a fuel efficiency improvement of up to 2% _{* 1} and is expected to be applied into additional models in the future. _{* 1 Under standard operating conditions}
